Offered in this listing is a brand new VeloMotion recumbent frame set , model Scopa, with optional extras. To configure your bike eg. If we don’t have a suitable size/variant/colour in stock, there will be a 2 to 6 weeks lead time. Allowing us to manufacture a suitable frame size, and have it painted in a colour of your choice. Main frame with adjustable boom tube, powder coated in the colour of choice – handlebar, handlebar riser (powder coated in matt black) – seat mounts and struts (powder coated in matt black) – chain idler wheel – nuts and bolts, etc. RAL chart colours come as standard, pearl/candy/candy sparkle are an option(selectable in the drop down items menu, as an additional item). To build up the bike you will need: – recumbent hardshell seat (Steintrikes glassfiber or carbon seat is a recommended optional). Seat mounts are designed for Steintrikes seat, with flat seat mount interface. Other seats with rounded mounting surfaces might require adaptation or fabrication of new seat mounts, in order not to introduce a pressure point on the curved seat using a flat seat mount, which can lead to seat damage. Seat should have a proper seat pad to go between your back and the seat. A suitable headset with 44mm ID cups (zero-stack 1 1/8 44mm headset, or a EC44/40 bottom cup for tapered forks) – suitable fork – depending on the planned wheel size, brake type, tires, mudguard mounts, etc. Frame geometry allows for both wheels of the same size, so you can built it up as a dual 700c, 650c, 26″ 559, 24″, 20 – requires a zero rake fork, to keep the trail in check. A short travel suspension fork without the classic forged crown(or alternatively a chain tube to guide the chain over the crown) such as Sr-Suntour Swing Shock could be used with a rear wheel one size larger, eg. 622 wheel at the back, 559 at the front, 20′ in the front and 24″ in the rear, or longer travel 20″ fork with 26 at the back, to keep the steering geometry more-less in check. A-head stem in a suitable length, depending on the rider size, arm length, seat angle and rider position. Stem should be 1 1/8″ clamp at the steerer tube, and a 1″ clamp on the handlebar size. Set of equal sized wheels, rear wheel with a hub of 135mm OLD with a regular 10mm axle, internal gear hubs or cassette hubs. You can use smaller size wheel at the front, if the combination of wheels and front fork retains, more-less, the original head tube angle. Examples given above in the fork section. Frame supports multiple wheel sizes: 700c(ISO 622) using road caliper brakes, or various other sizes when using disc brakes. Tire size limitations depend on the presence of the brake/mudguard bridge bridge is an option if you plan on using road caliper brakes, or just want the upper mudguard mount. W/o brake bridge: up to 622x54mm. With a smaller rim, 27.5 or less, you can go as wide 60, or even 70mm with minimum mud clearance. With brake bridge: up to 622x28mm, up to 584×52, up to 559×65. Wheel and tire choice determine the use of the bike, and with one and the same frame you can go from a classic road bike. Or a 30-35mm comfy audax bike, to a wide tired gravel grinder or an adventure bike! That’s our “one frame – many uses” philosophy. A choice of regular bicycle parts such as brakes and drivetrain, available in any bike store. Things to note: Bottom bracket is standard BSA thread, 68mm shell. Front dérailleur should be a “down swing” type (clamp on top>pivot linkage>cage on bottom) with a bottom cable pull. Rear IS disc mount is in IS FRONT standard, so use the same caliper adapter as for the front wheel, eg. 160mm rotor on the rear will use a F160 adapter, NOT a R160. Large frames or tall steerer might need a longer then standard 210cm rear dérailleur cable. Handlebar ends are suited for bar-end shifters(highly recommended), grip shifters are also a good option. Trigger shifters are good too, but bare in mind that they narrow the cockpit space significantly (less leg space) as the levers protrude towards the thighs, and hence limit the available leg space, and limit turning circle while you are spinning the pedals when you don’t spin, you can lower the inner leg, and then do a tight turn regardless of the sifter type, as the handlebar passes above the thigh. Assembly is mostly straight-forward, but should you have questions regarding the assembly, we of course will provide assistance with detailed instructions or advice. Scopa is our original first, based on a “one frame – many uses” philosophy, refined over the years of riding and building experience to a present day Mk3 iteration of the concept. Scopa can be a fast road runner, or a fat-tired gravel grinder. Or something in between. Choice of fork, brakes, wheels, and tires determine what it will be. Made out of EU-made St52 seamless cold drawn precision thin wall steel tubing (very similar in characteristics with more known CrMo) hand crafted with care and attention by experienced European recumbent frame builders. Boom tube, handlebars and seat struts are made of aluminium. Available in 3 different sizes, and two wall thickness levels to suit most riders. Within those 3 frame sizes, adjustable boom allows for leg length adjustment, seat back angle is adjustable between 20 and 30 degrees, handlebar is adjustable in height, and handlebar reach is set with a right choice of stem length. Seats are available in 4 sizes, depending on the riders back length. Frame is powder coated in a colour of your choice, from a wide range of RAL-chart shades, or specials such as pearl or candy apple, candy apple sparkle, with hi-gloss or matte finishing transparent layer on top. Main frame with boom in size S tips the scales at around 3200 grams, handlebar/riser/seat mounts/nuts & bolts etc. Come out to about 1000g, allowing for a complete build to weight as light as 10kg only! With average components, metal front fork, disc brakes, glassfiber seat – most builds end up around 12.5-13kg. Where with a carbon seat, carbon road fork, caliper brakes, light wheels, can be around 10kg. We have been designing and producing hand made recumbent bicycles, made out of EU-made St52 steel tubing, shaped, welded, and powder coated by hand in Europe. Simple in design, effective and practical, VeloMotion recumbents deliver the right balance of price, weight, and stiffness, resulting in a recumbent highracer that is affordable, reasonably light, and quite practical. Equal sized wheels and standard bike parts allow for a simple and cheap built, yet light and fast, easy to transport. So simple that you could even use your existing bike as a parts donor! The only extra items you are likely to need is some extra chain (about 2.5 standard chain length) and a longer then 2.1m long rear dérailleur cable should you happen to be very tall and need a L size frame. At the present time we offer two models, our original Scopa , and a fatbike named Sequoia (take a look at our other actions) Scopa, a broom in Italian. As for sweeping roadies out on your favourite cycling route. Or as for the shape of the bare frame when leaned against the wall ; Magical vehicle right out of Hogwarts ; The universal any-road recumbent cycling tool. Scopa has been successfully raced in Poland’s Batyk-Bieszczady Tour, aka BBT 1008km ultra race, finished in less then 54 hours. It’s also a 2017. Scopa also comes in a suitcase-bike version , with a splittable frame! No special tools required, just an hex wrench. Simple, cheap, sturdy, reliable, splits in a minute. With 20 wheels it can fit in a 75×50 suitcase with ease. Remove the seat, slide the handlebars off the fork, remove the wheels, and stuff it in a suitcase to fly to the other end of the world. Unpack, put parts back where they belong, and ride off the airport in comfort. Sequoia , a recumbent fatbike, based on the proven original Scopa stickbike concept. Up to 5 fatbike tires allow a recumbent to venture where no recumbent has ventured before. It eats them for breakfast. Winter or summer, you can always venture off the beaten track into the wild. It might not win any XC races against an upright bike, but hey – it’s so much more fun. And so much comfortable then the wedgie bike.
